Rank-Normalized Impact Factor: A Way To Compare Journal Performance Across Subject Categories
Eugene Garfield Institute for Scientific Information, 3501 Market Street, Philadelphia, PA 19104, U.S .A Email: [email protected] ! It is well known that uninformed science administrators offen use ISl's journal impact factors without taking into account the inherent citation characteristics of individual scientific disciplines. A rank normalized impact factor (rnlF) is proposed whic...
متن کاملGoogle Scholar journal metrics: Comparison with impact factor and SCImago journal rank indicator for nuclear medicine journals
Introduction: In the current study, we compared h5-index provided by Google Scholar (GS), impact factor (IF) provided by web of sciences (WOS), and SCImago journal rank indicator (SJR) provided by SCOPUS for quality assessment of nuclear medicine journals. Methods: 2013 h5-index, 2012 IF, and 2011 SJR of nuclear medicine journals were extracted from their publishers namely GS, WOS, and SCOPUS....
متن کاملComparison of SCImago journal rank indicator with journal impact factor.
The application of currently available sophisticated algorithms of citation analysis allows for the incorporation of the "quality" of citations in the evaluation of scientific journals. We sought to compare the newly introduced SCImago journal rank (SJR) indicator with the journal impact factor (IF). We retrieved relevant information from the official Web sites hosting the above indices and the...
متن کاملOn the behavior of journal impact factor rank-order distribution
An empirical law for the rank-order behavior of journal impact factors is found. Using an extensive data base on impact factors includ-have found extremely good fittings outperforming other rank-order models. Based in our results we propose a two-exponent Lotkaian Informetrics. Some extensions to other areas of knowledge are discussed.
